Myanmar Silver Lining Earthquake Disaster

Dear Supporters and Friends,

March 28 Update:

A powerful earthquake struck Myanmar, with the epicenter near Mandalay, close to Pyin Oo Lwin, where our Silver Lining Family Village is located. The tremors were intense and lasted several minutes.

At the time, we were on a field trip with over 170 children and a visiting U.S. team at a nearby park. When the quake hit, I was with about 30 children in the forest. The ground shook violently, but the children remained incredibly brave. I held them close to keep them safe, and thankfully, no one was hurt. Though shaken, the children soon regained their smiles and continued their activities.

The earthquake caused severe damage across Myanmar, particularly in Mandalay:

  • The Mandalay airport was damaged and closed, forcing us to cancel our flight and drive over 12 hours to Yangon instead.

  • Buildings collapsed, including a six-story school where teachers and students remain trapped. Rescue efforts are ongoing.

Current Needs & Next Steps:

  • Safety during travel: We are making a long journey by road to Yangon and hope for safe conditions.

  • Support for affected areas: Many in Mandalay and nearby towns need urgent help, especially those trapped or displaced.

  • Care for the children: While they appear calm, we’ll continue providing comfort and stability after this frightening experience.

March 29 Update:

After an 18.5-hour drive from Pyin Oo Lwin to Yangon, we arrived safely at 4 a.m. The roads were heavily damaged, requiring alternate routes. Along the way, we saw collapsed buildings and homes-heartbreaking scenes of loss. The visiting team has now departed Yangon.

Myanmar faces immense challenges-war, poverty, and now this disaster. Many children have lost parents, leaving them vulnerable. In response, we plan to expand our Family Village to welcome more children in need, offering them safety and care.

How You Can Help:

  • Support relief efforts for affected communities.

  • Help us provide shelter and care for newly orphaned children.

  • Share updates to raise awareness.

Thank you for standing with us during this difficult time. Your support makes a difference.

Dear Supporters and Friends,

Recently, Myanmar was struck by a powerful earthquake that has caused devastating loss and destruction. As of now, more than 3,500 people have tragically lost their lives.

Our two Silver Lining Family Villages (orphanages) are located near two of the hardest-hit cities — Mandalay and Nyaung Shwe — both of which are in the heart of the disaster zone.

We have seen the devastation with our own eyes. In some areas, entire villages have been flattened. In one village near Nyaung Shwe, where we are preparing to bring relief, 107 people have died, and almost every home has been reduced to rubble.

The survivors are facing overwhelming grief, and emotional and physical trauma. They urgently need care, comfort, and support.

Silver Lining Missions is preparing to send two disaster relief teams to:

  • Mandalay

  • Nyaung Shwe (Inle Lake region)

Nyaung Shwe

We will bring urgently needed food and medicine, and personally reach the families in these affected areas. Through our actions and presence, we hope to bring practical help and a message of compassion and hope.

We warmly invite you to stand with us.

Whether through giving or prayer, your partnership will help extend God’s love where it’s needed most.

Your support brings strength and hope.

Together, let’s speak to the people of Myanmar with our actions: You are not alone.

Thank you for walking with us into places of great need.

May the Lord bless you and keep every hand that reaches out in love.
